Digital Vocabulary Sculpture

2015

Shapes printed during the exhibition by a 3D printer are placed on a light table. The 256 shapes in the Digital Vocabulary film are captured in motion and printed using a 3D printer. The virtual becomes real and is embodied in forms.

This transformation of state, from digital to solid, is made possible by translating digital shapes into a program that makes the elements editable. They are then arranged next to each other following the organization of the original Digital Vocabulary plates produced by Woody Vasulka in the early 1980s.
